GET MORE > City > towns > Morogoro

To the older generation, Morogoro means the home of various reputed musicians such as the

late Salum Abdallah and the Cuban Marimba Band, Mbarak Mwishehe, the Super Volcano band

and so on.

Not only that, this old generation would always view Morogoro as a real (Dar es Salaam) city full

of luxuries and entertainment except that it has no sea or ocean, and that is why it came to be

known by the name of Mji kasoro bahari. It is true that Morogoro is a city except for the ocean.

People are already 'gossiping' that residents of Dar es Salaam are now going to Morogoro for

their weekends. One clear reason is that climatewise the municipality is cooler and the Uluguru

mountains are a visual feast.

Secondly, the town has a number of top class and middle class hotels and lodges owing to its

strategic position where roads to Iringa, Dodoma and Dar es Salaam intercept. The famous

Msamvu new bus stop is another good reason for the town to be frequented by a lot of visitors

weekly. As the town is surrounded by the famous Uluguru Mountains, a number of tourists

travel there making Morogoro their base for their expeditions.

This is so for those going to Mikumi National Park and those proceeding to the Udzungwa

National Park.

If you look at what is happening in the town center, particularly at night, you would surely think

that some youths of this town are not fully utilising the gift that God bestowed on them. The

region is blessed with fertile land, where crops such as paddy, sisal, fruits, sugar cane, yams, to

mention but a few, thrive.
