GET MORE > City > towns > Morogoro

To the older generation, Morogoro means the home of various reputed musicians such as the

late Salum Abdallah and the Cuban Marimba Band, Mbarak Mwishehe, the Super Volcano band

and so on.

Not only that, this old generation would always view Morogoro as a real (Dar es Salaam) city full

of luxuries and entertainment except that it has no sea or ocean, and that is why it came to be

known by the name of Mji kasoro bahari. It is true that Morogoro is a city except for the ocean.

People are already 'gossiping' that residents of Dar es Salaam are now going to Morogoro for

their weekends. One clear reason is that climatewise the municipality is cooler and the Uluguru

mountains are a visual feast.

Secondly, the town has a number of top class and middle class hotels and lodges owing to its

strategic position where roads to Iringa, Dodoma and Dar es Salaam intercept. The famous

Msamvu new bus stop is another good reason for the town to be frequented by a lot of visitors

weekly. As the town is surrounded by the famous Uluguru Mountains, a number of tourists

travel there making Morogoro their base for their expeditions.

This is so for those going to Mikumi National Park and those proceeding to the Udzungwa

National Park.

If you look at what is happening in the town center, particularly at night, you would surely think

that some youths of this town are not fully utilising the gift that God bestowed on them. The

region is blessed with fertile land, where crops such as paddy, sisal, fruits, sugar cane, yams, to

mention but a few, thrive.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF NDAMBA TRIBE

The Ndamba is an ethnic and linguistic group based in south-central Tanzania whose population was 79,000 in 1987. It is found in South Central, the Iringa Region, northeast of Bena, southeast of Hehe, west of Pogolo and southwest of Mbunga.

Language
The Ndamba language has a lexical similarity of 69 per cent with Mbunga and 56 per cent with Pogolo. Speakers also use Swahili. Although it has been reported that Ndamba and Mbunga are two different tribes, the reality is that they are one tribe and the difference between them is purely dialetic.
In recent years some Ndambas have volunteered to write a dictionary. The first standard Ndamba Dictionary was written by Agathon Kipandula in 2008. The writer is a language researcher who is an employee of Bank of Tanzania.

Origin
The tribe is based in Mlimba, Msagati, Chisano, Chita, Merera, Malinyi, Igawa, Ngombo, Mchombe, Mngeta, Lwipa, Mbingu, Mofu, and other parts of Kilombero and Ulanga district areas, and derived from Pogoro. A small group, it was initiated by its own chief and spread through the southern part of the Morogoro Region. Their first Chief was known as Mbuyi Undole I who also registered the tribe in the Government registered as a tribe in 1901

Customs and beliefs
The tribe, also known as Wandamba, is well known for eating rice and fish only: its members can eat rice all year without changing. Most of them belong to the Roman Catholic
Material Handling Equipment
Material handling equipment (MHE) is used for the movement and storage of material within a facility or at a site. MHE can be classified into the following five major categories:
Transport Equipment. Equipment used to move material from one location to another (e.g., between workplaces, between a loading dock and a storage area, etc.). The major subcategories of transport equipment are conveyors, cranes, and industrial trucks. Material can also be transported manually using no equipment.
Positioning Equipment. Equipment used to handle material at a single location so that it is in the correct position for subsequent handling, machining, transport, or storage. Unlike transport equipment, positioning equipment is usually used for handling at a single workplace. Material can also be positioned manually using no equipment.
Unit Load Formation Equipment. Equipment used to restrict materials so that they maintain their integrity when handled a single load during transport and for storage. If materials are self-restraining (e.g., a single part or interlocking parts), then they can be formed into a unit load with no equipment.
Storage Equipment. Equipment used for holding or buffering materials over a period of time. Some storage equipment may include the transport of materials (e.g., the S/R machines of an AS/RS, or storage carousels). If materials are block stacked directly on the floor, then no storage equipment is required.
Identification and Control Equipment. Equipment used to collect and communicate the information that is used to coordinate the flow of materials within a facility and between a facility and its suppliers and customers. The identification of materials and associated control can be performed manually with no specialized equipment.

RAGE AIBUKA KIDEDEA SIMBA

ISMAIL Aden Rage was yesterday elected new Chairman of soccer giants Simba SC, to end weeks of tug of war and legal wrangles. Close to 2,000 members turned up at the Police Officers Mess to cast their votes in the polls, amid tight security. Rage, a former Secretary General of the then Football Association of Tanzania (FAT), now Tanzania Football Federation (TFF),scooped 785 votes out of 1,437 votes casted to defeat his sole challenger Hassan Othman Hassanol, who managed 435 votes. His challenger Hassanol left shortly before the final results were announced. It could not be immediately established whether he conceded the defeat on not. Geoffrey Nyange ‘Kaburu’ who stood unopposed was declared Vice-Chairman, after collecting 1094 votes out of 1356 votes casted. The post of executive committee members went to Joseph Kinesi, Sued Mkwabi, Said Pamba, Damian Manembe, Francis Waya and Ibrahim Masoud. Shortly after casting their votes, most members walked out of the venue, stood in small groups discussing issues related to the elections and as usual, speculations were rife on who had won what. Few went away possibly to watch the climax of the English Premier League, but majority remained behind. It took some three hours to count the votes, as earlier count suggested tight race for the post of chairman, and the electoral committee under the chairmanship of Damas Ndumbaro had to go for several recounts. Earlier, Rage looked weary. He entered the venue at noon shortly before the introductory note as the members waited for the contestants to arrive. But in the end he left smiling ear to ear. He said when persuading members for their votes that he needed only 100 days for everyone to prove whether he is a flop or a true Simba redeemer. Ironically, a big puzzle yesterday was failure by the outgoing leadership to present a report on their four years reign in office. No financial report was given to members either. Some of them even failed to turn up to vote including the General Secretary, Mwina Kaduguda. And, still members had no audacity to query. However, the elections were held in a peaceful atmosphere, save for minor occasions, when members protested against what they deemed to be ‘silly’ questions directed to contestants by fellow members during question and answer sessions. For instance, one member was ordered to sit down by the Chairman of the Dar es Salaam Regional Football Association (DRFA), Amin Bakhresa, just because he had asked Hassanol how he would deal with the same members that he once told they acted like ‘bar maids’. “Sit down, that is not a question to ask here, give chance to others with relevant questions,” said Bakhresa. In the meantime, murmuring filled the venue. Drama was not in short supply as embattled Michael Wambura and Juma Mtemi, who opted for court action against the club’s elections, were barred from entering the venue. The duo’s membership was put on hold by the Simba’s executive committee allegedly for taking football matters to court, which is against the club’s constitution. Against all odds, it was said that Wambura, who decided to go to court after he was axed from the race to vie for chairmanship post, decided to back Rage, unfortunately he could not sneak into the election venue to mount his last minute campaign. “We are happy that members have shown passion and love for their team. They turned up in large number despite fears that the elections might not be held. Some came from up-country as far as Kagera, Shinyanga, Mbeya and Ruvuma,” the club Spokesperson, Clifford Ndimbo said.
